Cape Town Carnival
With a vision to showcase the diverse communities, cultures and peoples of the city and the country, the annual Cape Town Carnival is fast becoming one of the year’s biggest attractions. The parade makes its way along the Cape Town Fan Walk which runs through the vibrant suburb of Green Point, neighbour to the CBD.
Actors, dancers and performers make their way down the route, outrageously dressed in bright colours and magnificent attire. They escort gigantic floats, breath-taking in their scale and magical charm. The running of this event means high levels of participation and activity from various industries like set-building, clothing and costumes. Because of the needs and requirements of such a large and complicated operation, there are numerous training opportunities in float design, production and logistics. What results is a glamorous occasion with locals and tourists alike revelling in the incredible experience and energetic displays of pride and identity. It takes place in March each year.
